Notes: I just can't NOT love vine charcoal, it's so easy to manipulate. If you ever get a chance, make sure to try it out, if you have not already... This is my fiancee done in charcoal.

Bouguereau in Charcoal

ChoW 297 WIPs

Title:  ChoW 297 WIPs
Date: July 31, 2012
Medium: Photoshop

Notes: I think the topic is awesome... futuristic bard, so I decided to ode to the 80s (my favorite decade). Just some quick thoughts here. Hopefully it will come to fruition.

Hershey in Charcoal

Title:  Hershey in Charcoal
Date: July 30, 2012
Medium: Vine Charcoal
Scale: Original is 12" x 9"

Notes: The face is really odd, but it's really hard to capture a dog that is constantly moving. Either way, it was fun.

Petey in Charcoal

Title:  Petey in Charcoal
Date: July 30, 2012
Medium: Vine Charcoal
Scale: Original is 9" x 12"

Notes: Set Petey up with a book and just went into it.

Face Sketch

Title:  Face Sketch
Date: July 31, 2012
Medium: Photoshop

Notes: I was scanning through my reference art folder and came across this piece by mezamero and I wanted to try to do a piece in that style. It was incredibly fun... and surprisingly I learned a bit from it.

Leather Study

Title:  Leather Study
Date: July 26, 2012
Medium: Photoshop
Scale: Original is 700px x 1176px

Notes: Just attempting to learn more about leather and skin tones before going back to the pin-up. This is actually the type of jacket that the pin-up girl is supposed to be wearing. This was done as fast as I could. Around thirty minutes.

Muscle Poses

Title:  Muscle Poses
Date: July 26, 2012
Medium: Photoshop
Scale: Original is 925px x 1443px

Notes: More and more anatomy studies, this time down to the muscle level. I'll have to do a few more of these because it will most likely help me a ton in the near future. Plus I think they look interesting.

The Killing

Title:  The Killing
Date: July 24, 2012
Medium: Photoshop
Scale: 558px x 800px

Notes: Just a lighting study that I thought looked interesting.

Midori Still Life

Title:  Midori Still Life
Date: July 25, 2012
Medium: Photoshop
Scale: Original is 1695px x 2444px

Notes: Hmm... I had a ton of fun on this one, and honestly the only thing that I thought about when I started it was that book. But then... after painting it, I think I'm noticing something odd. All my still lifes seem to have LIQUOUR IN THEM!
About 1.5hrs

Just kinda taking it nice and easy today.

Just kept reading my Siegfried book and haven't stopped admiring Alex Alice's work!

ChoW # 297 WIPs 2

Title:  ChoW # 297 WIPs 2
Date: July 24 - 25, 2012
Medium: Photoshop

Notes: I think I might've found my groove on this guy. The bottom left looks to be my lines for this guy. I'll start to color him in and make him interesting tomorrow.

Mountain Color Study

Title:  Mountain Color Study
Date: July 24, 2012
Medium: Photoshop

Notes: I was just looking through my photo book and noticed this lovely composition. It's kind of similiar... I still need to learn how to do atmospheric decompression before this will make sense.

Get this book! It's incredible!

All of this is amazing.

Anyway, time for art.

Pin-Up WIPs 2

Title:  Pin-Up WIPs 2
Date: July 23 - 24, 2012

Scale: Original is 17" x 11"

Notes: Keeping on keeping on.

ChoW # 297 WIPs

Title:  Chow # 297 WIPs
Date: July 24, 2012
Medium: Photoshop

Notes: I'm trying to think about this one as much as I can conceptually. I need to make sure to follow the brief as closely as possible while still going sort of illustrative.

Posemaniac Return

Title:  Posemaniac Return
Date: July 24, 2012
Medium: Photoshop

Notes: I need to do these a ton more, they are always the greatest warm-up.

Pin-Up WIPs

Title:  Pin-Up WIPs
Date: July 23, 2012
Medium: Photoshop
Scale: Original is 17" x 11"

Notes: Just the first few passes on the pin-up piece. I'm definitely going to be reworking the hair / face as I go. It's exciting though to finally get moving on this piece. I'm just diving into it! GO GO GO!!!

Armor / Clothing Study

Title:  Armor / Clothing Study
Date: July 21, 2012
Medium: Graphite
Scale: 9" x 12"

Notes: The traditional version of my armor studies. I threw in my hat for good measure. You never know when you'll need even a basic hat to protect your head.

Lunch Doodles

Title:  Lunch Doodles

Date: July 21, 2012
Medium: Graphite
Scale: 9" x 12"

Notes: More drawing during lunch at work. I just have to keep on trucking!

Pin-Up Girl - Pencils

Title:  Pin-Up Girl - Pencils

Date: July 14, 2012
Medium: Graphite
Scale: 17" x 11"

Notes: This is the official start to that pin-up girl that I was hinting at before... I'm going to digitize this piece and that will be that. Keep watching for more progress on this girl.

She-Wolf

Title:  She-Wolf

Date: July 21 - 22, 2012
Medium: Graphite / Photoshop
Scale: Original is 9" x 12"

Notes: Drew the pencils on Saturday, then went over them really fast in Photoshop. I think this still has quite a bit to go before it's professional quality. I guess that means I missed another contest deadline... UGH! I need to get on the ball if I'm going to start these.

You compare the two... tell me which you like better:

Captain of the Guard - WIP 4 & 5

Title:  Captain of the Guard - WIP 4 & 5
Date: July 16 - 21, 2012
Medium: Photoshop

Notes: Completely reworked the piece to have a more painterly approach rather than a pencil lines go at it. I probably won't have time to finish this for the contest, but I want to finish it later. I really should try to study some steel armors before going back at it.

Charmander - WIP 5 - 10

Title:  Charmander - WIP 5 - 10
Date: July 14 - 20, 2012
Medium: Photoshop
Scale: Original is 12" x 9"

Notes: Alright! Took a bit of time. But I think I'm calling Charmander done at step 10. Took a bit too long, but I think it turned out alright. Hopefully you guys think it looks alright. I think maybe one thing I need to work on is my confidence when it comes to my work. Ehhh... either way this was a fun learning experience. Now time to start the next one...

CGHUB: Werewolf

Title:  CGHUB: Werewolf
Date: July 19, 2012
Medium: Photoshop

Notes: Just starting to mess around with a piece for CGHub's character contest.

Charmander - WIP 4

Title:  Charmander - WIP 4
Date: July 14 - 18, 2012
Medium: Photoshop
Scale: Original is 12" x 9"

Notes: Not much added today. I just wasn't feeling this one at the moment, going to sleep on it and revisit it more tomorrow. Fixed some anatomy and trying to get the positioning on the trainer better.

Captain of the Guard - WIP 2 & 3

Title:  Captain of the Guard - WIP 2 & 3
Date: July 16 - 18, 2012
Medium: Photoshop
Scale: Original is 9" x 12"

Notes: Just messing around more on this as well today. I'm almost thinking of starting over as the anatomy seems completely wonky. Ugh....... Just realizing as always how far away I am. Oh well... trucking on.

Southern Comfort Still Life

Title:  Southern Comfort Still Life
Date: July 17, 2012
Medium: Photoshop
Scale: Original is 1450px x 2584px

Notes: This is really the only thing successful from today. I had this in my head from when I woke up and was like, must paint that. It was fun and an exciting material test.

Punky Cora

Title:  Punky Cora
Date: July 14, 2012
Medium: Graphite
Scale: Original is 9" x 12"

Notes: She's always fun to draw -- haven't drawn her in some time. I noticed after I got done that her hands are all sorts of wonky. But it was a fun one for an extremely fast go at it.

Faces from Life

Title:  Faces from Life
Date: July 12 - 16, 2012
Medium: Graphite
Scale: Original is 9" x 12"

Notes: The top half of the page is from life, then later I went back using what I learned and tried to make the other half of the page into imagination faces. By far the life ones are better, but it was still a really fun exercise that I will have to repeat. I think it helped me get a better grasp on faces...

Go, Go, Go, Hands

Title:  Go, Go, Go, Hands
Date: July 14, 2012
Medium: Graphite
Scale: Original is 9" x 12"

Notes: You can NEVER get enough hand studies. These are still and will probably be for some time, the hardest part of human anatomy for me to do. Just keep practicing more and more...

Captain of the Guard - WIP 1

Title:  Captain of the Guard - WIP 1
Date: July 16 - 17, 2012
Medium: Photoshop
Scale: Original is 9" x 12"

Notes: Taking a break from everything else to try and do some character work. I've been dying to try out everything I learned. I know the guy on the right is all sorts of wonky, I just wanted to get some quick armor ideas out there...

Pin-Up Studies

Title:  Pin-Up Studies
Date: July 14, 2012
Medium: Graphite
Scale: Original is 9" x 12"

Notes: These are all for that pin-up commission that I have. I'm working on that at the same time as the other stuff. It's weird working on this many things at once, but it's exciting as well!
