Title: Illustration 4: Levitt Shell Poster & T-Shirt Finals
Medium: Photoshop CS3, Illustrator CS3

Notes: PHEW! Big 'ole mess, but this project is officially over. As always though, here comes the next one in the pipe...

This project was the Levitt Shell here in Memphis was holding a competition to promote their summer rock series for the upcoming year. We had to enter this piece into that competition and see how we fare. Hopefully I'll do alright.

Illustration 4: Levitt Shell Poster & T-Shirt

Title: Illustration 4: Levitt Shell Poster & T-Shirt
Date: February 8 - 10, 2013
Medium: Photoshop CS3

Notes: This is for the newest project we have on the burner for Illustration 4. We are working with the Levitt Shell for a competition to help design a poster and t-shirt for the summer concert series.

The thumbs above are different ideas that were rolling around my head while looking at a whole bunch of reference photos.

  • Head swirling hair back to make it look like the Levitt Shell. (Janis Joplin?)
  • Evolution chart from birth to rockstar.
  • Half-cut from neck down of a guitarist. Show the guitar leaning towards the audience.
  • Look at Mucha paintings. Maybe one with a rockstar would work?
  • Rudeone - Rock the Casbah. What if it were to an Elvis type figure butted up against a heavily tattoo'd person (back to back).
Were just a couple of ideas that immediately popped out. I'm sure there will be more, but this is where I'm at currently.
Also, the moodboard below reflects all of the applicable images that I could find that were related to those five themes above.

Yay! Tiny little break so I can finally start to play around with my own stuff again...

Very inspirational and LONG!

I've actually finally gotten around to scanning and editing all those images that I kept hinting at... it was about 60 or so pages. I actually smashed them all into about 3 images so that there wouldn't be a complete image spam. I can say though... that each 'page' you see (even though it's hard to see some of the breaks) is a 9" x 12" sheet of paper. So the image is actually pretty huge if seen at full size. Either way, I want to finally share what I've been up so far for school.

Artist of the week for this week goes to:
Sickbrush over on conceptart.org

This person has been extremely dedicated because of the multiple posts daily (each with a new piece of art), extremely great advice, tips and tricks, and even some downloadable material like brushes... Overall this person seems to just be completely on 'top of the game' and I will be extremely suprised if they don't go REALLY far in the future. My hat is off to you, and I am making sure to keep watching you...
Not too much going on besides vacation and finally getting a small break. I'll just continue arting and animating. I'm actually trying a new way of drawing: Gunmetal grey paper, black conte / graphite, and white chalk... if you look at the last image, let me know how it turned out.

I think in the couple of weeks there is going to be the haunted house for Memphis College of Art.

Anyway, here's the art that you guys might've come for:

Thanks for viewing... Come back for more later!

Another week passes... more and more drawing!

Not a whole lot to report this week...
There is an awesome show coming to the gallery at Memphis College of Art called A Loss of Attention.

A snippet about it was actually on my teacher's blog website: HERE

I think this is pretty huge, as it actually is a show entirely about the relationship between art and writing. A great many of artists try to scoff writing, but it's actually a ton more essential than the realize and thus, I think this show is amazing.

Continuing with last week's starting tradition: Artist of the Week!
This week's honor goes to Chinese_Chicken over on conceptart.org
This person's designs are amazing, especially with the attention to detail. They seem to have a hefty grasp on the 3D with the amazingly detailed 'mini-sculptures' that they've created. I never even knew that sculpture was really a medium in which you could do fan art, which is exactly what they've done. Keep up the good work!!!
In other news, I lost the contest for the T-Shirt for Memphis College of Art, but ehh what can you do? Here's the winner: Shirt Winner and other Information

Either way, this doesn't stop the art train at all...

Here's more:
