True Blood Portrait Series 2: Hoyt Fortenberry

Title: True Blood Portrait Series 2: Hoyt Fortenberry
Date: August 5 & 7, 2013
Medium: Photoshop
Scale: Original is 10" x 13"

Notes: Looks like I skipped a day and didn't even realize it hahaha!! Oh well... here is Jessica's counterpart, Hoyt. He was a bit faster to paint, either that or I'm getting better at this whole transferring thing... Regardless, it was a fun one.
More soon!

True Blood Portrait Series 2: Opposites Attract I

Title: True Blood Portrait Series 2: Opposites Attract I
Medium: Photoshop

Notes: I originally had this plan to lay each of them out side-by-side. Each pairing would be a counterpart type thing. I'm going to try and do each one of them as I go. And then I'll upload them all together at the end to see how they relate, which are better, etc.

Ugh... school starts in like two weeks! Must power paint as much as possible until it starts. And get mah game on!

My Muse

Title: My Muse
Date: August 5, 2013
Medium: Photoshop CS3
Scale: Original is 2400px x 3200px

Notes: The coolest part about this painting was how the light was playing on her face. It was like two different light sources competing at the same time for attention. I can't help but love paint ma'lady! She is my muse for sure. She's the one that started me on the path to artlyness, and she's the one that constantly pushes me to do more and more art! Without her I don't really think that I would do any art at all...

Preview time!

True Blood Portrait Series 2: Alcide Herveaux

Title: True Blood Portrait Series 2: Alcide Herveaux
Date: July 24 & 30 - 31, 2013
Medium: Photoshop
Scale: Original is 10" x 13"
Notes: Err... there was a bit of a break in between on this one. I started it right after the Jessica painting, and I think I just got kind of side-tracked on other things I guess. Or maybe I can just blame my Skyrim addiction as of late. I've been playing quite a bit of that before school starts up again. But what can I say, that game is ridiculously addicting.
Anyway, here is the finished painting of Alcide. I think it's a step up from my previous attempt...
I can say though, to simulate a blurry background is nothing short of impossible. I tried the blur tool, I tried a blur filter... I just said screw it and just used a blurry brush and dabbed it here and there.

Tutorial:

Dazed and Confused

Title: Dazed and Confused
Date: July 30, 2013
Medium: Photoshop
Scale: Original is 2400px x 3200

Notes: I haven't done a self-portrait in a little while... and here it is, with a little bit of experimentation. Did this one really fast honestly (around 1-hour-ish...) and just had a blast. The portrait is a little on the creepy side... but it was the best of the two I took for ref. Mental note: Try and not be creepy in pictures, but I can't guarantee anything.

Also, this was a contest entry for here!

Also... as a bonus sneak peak into my next piece:

True Blood Portrait Series 2: Jessica

Title: True Blood Portrait Series 2: Jessica
Date: July 21 - 23, 2013
Medium: Photoshop
Scale: Original is 10" x 13"

Notes: HEY! Remember back a few months ago when I painted Jessica (and all the rest of the True Blood cast...) Well, here's a redo!
I'd like to think that I've gotten a little bit better? More on this redo of the portrait series coming soon!

Oh, and as usual, here's the tutorial...

Time Travelling

Title: Time Travelling
Date: June 9, 2013
Medium: Ink
Scale: 9" x 12"

Notes:  Again, going with that white gel pen on top of the black ink washes makes for some really interesting tones. I love the way this looks, I just need to get the underlying figure still more in order, but I feel like I'm getting there, albeit slowly but surely.

Portrait Double

Title: Portrait Double
Date: June 8, 2013
Medium: Graphite, Chalk
Scale: Each piece is 9" x 12"

Notes:  I think as always, drawing from life is key. The top one is done from a photo, and the bottom is done from life. I honestly think that the 'from life' one looks infinitely better. I think in my image though she looks a ton more serious than she did during that drawing. As with a bunch of my pieces, these are matter of focus driven.

Cora, Beer-o-Clock

Title: Cora, Beer-o-Clock
Date: June 9, 2013
Medium: Graphite
Scale: Original is on 9" x 12"

Notes: Trying to make it a daily habit to draw Cora. I'm not entirely sure if she'll be the focus of my comics class next semester, but she might very well become my comic go-to character.

True Blood Portrait Series -- Eric

Title: True Blood Portrait Series -- Eric
Date: June 7, 2013
Medium: Photoshop

Notes:  I think there might still be a few things wrong with the eyes, but I'm just going to call it and move on. I think it's a big step up from where I was not even a month ago, with both digital and anatomy. Either way, I have a bunch of these True Blood characters to go.

Tuesday, February 5, 2013

I don't have a ton of time at the moment, in a bit of a rush. But I didn't want to leave anyone hanging (if they were even watching in the first place).
Here's a series I've worked on this weekend... the homework, it's endless.

True Blood Portrait Series: Bill

Title:  True Blood Portrait Series: Bill
Date: February 3, 2013
Medium: Photoshop
Scale: Original is 1500px x 1950px

Notes:  The series of portraits did not start off with Bill, but he got lucky and placed in the front. Honestly, out of all the portraits, he seems to be the most anatomically correct. I hope that the slight contrast works well.

True Blood Portrait Series: Alcide

Title:  True Blood Portrait Series: Alcide
Date: February 1, 2013
Medium: Photoshop
Scale: Original is 1500px x 1950px

Notes:  Alcide I believe was the second of the portraits I did. I tried my best to make him as contrasty as possible, but I think the tones are still a little too subtle. He is up there with one of my favorite characters from the show though...

True Blood Portrait Series: Jessica

Title:  True Blood Portrait Series: Jessica
Date: February 2, 2013
Medium: Photoshop
Scale: Original is 1500px x 1950px

Notes:  She was a bit of a difficult character to render, because she is so pale there are only subtle variations in her skin tone.

True Blood Portrait Series: Jason

Title:  True Blood Portrait Series: Jason
Date: February 2, 2013
Medium: Photoshop
Scale: Original is 1500px x 1950px

Notes:  I think I went a bit overboard for Jason's hair, but he was actually pretty fun to paint. I think I could still go back in (as with all of them) and noodle for a bit to make the tones more smooth, but either way, it was exciting.

True Blood Portrait Series: Lafyette

Title:  True Blood Portrait Series: Lafyette
Date: February 1, 2013
Medium: Photoshop
Scale: Original is 1500px x 1950px

Notes:  I actually started with Lafyette. I made him look slightly younger than he actually is, but he was fun to do. I think I have a good time painting African Americans because they tend to have a nice middle to dark tone overall and it makes for an easier time to bring out the hard highlights.

True Blood Portrait Series: Sam

Title:  True Blood Portrait Series: Sam
Date: February 4, 2013
Medium: Photoshop
Scale: Original is 1500px x 1950px

Notes:  This was the last one of the bunch, so it kind of had a rushed feeling to it. I was just ready to be done at that point. I powered through the bunch and just kept on truckin'. I've been told this one has the most emotion in his face of the bunch...

True Blood Portrait Series: Sookie

Title:  True Blood Portrait Series: Sookie
Date: February 4, 2013
Medium: Photoshop
Scale: Original is 1500px x 1950px

Notes:  This (in my opinion) looks the least of the original people of the bunch. I couldn't quite figure it out while I was painting... Sookie has some difference in the anatomy or something... <shrug>

True Blood Portrait Series: Tara

Title:  True Blood Portrait Series: Tara
Date: February 3, 2013
Medium: Photoshop
Scale: Original is 1500px x 1950px

Notes:  She looks a bit younger than she actually is. But the exciting thing was, this was my first time ever doing braids, so the texture was completely different than normal hair.

True Blood Portrait Series: "Normals"

Title:  True Blood Portrait Series: "Normals"
Date: February 1 - 4, 2013
Medium: Photoshop

True Blood Portrait Series: "Supes"

Title:  True Blood Portrait Series: "Supes"
Date: February 1 - 4, 2013
Medium: Photoshop

Digital Face Studies

Title:  Digital Face Studies
Date: January 31, 2013
Medium: Photoshop
Scale: Original is 3000px x 3000px

Notes:  Doing these studies is actually what started the whole crazy mess above. I was just doing face studies la-de-da, when suddenly I was like... "FACE FEST 2013!" And off I went on a tangent...
