Impressionist Ashley

Title: Impressionist Ashley
Date: January 3&4, 2015
Medium: Photoshop CS6
Scale: Original is 16.5" x 22"

Notes: Going back in time here to try and see how well I can redo an old piece that I did quite a while ago...

Original is here.

I tried to use an impressionist painting technique while doing this piece. Couple that with the techniques learned from previously and this is the result.

Fan Art Friday Saturday: Consistency is Key

Title: Fan Art Friday Saturday: Consistency is Key
Date: January 2 & 3, 2015
Medium: Photoshop CS6
Scale: Original is 38.4" x 25.6"

Notes: If you're a fan of Sons of Anarchy, you'd realize that Juice is probably the most consistent character of the entire bunch - at least in terms of appearance. He looks almost exactly the same from season one to the end. It just goes to show that sometimes iconic characters appear where you'd least expect them.

"Commissioned by Ashley" (I can't help it. I love doing work that she enjoys.)

This piece really took some serious concentration. Not only was it an attempt to see how far I've grown since I started, but this was just a challenge to everything that I've learned so far. Every spot on this piece has at least two separate types of brushes, most of the piece has quite a few more, but I learned a very valuable lesson since digital painting, and that's to make every spot have multiple brush strokes to help your eye stay interested.
Hope you enjoy.

Begin the New Year Right!

Title: Begin the New Year Right!
Date: December 31, 2014
Medium: Photoshop CS6
Scale: Original is 1316px x 1366px

Notes: As a test of how many textures I could smash into one area, Ashley thought this would make an interesting study to try that out. I couldn't agree more.

Hope everyone had a good New Year and I hope everyone has good wishes and prospects for this year!

Fan Art Friday: Unity

Title: Fan Art Friday: Unity
Date: December 26, 2014
Medium: Photoshop CS6
Scale: Original is 3564px x 3300

Notes: There are some cool things coming in Loot Crate as of late.
First they've been sending me cool shirts and posters, but then they send me this super awesome full-metal coin based around Assassin's Creed.
I was blown away by the detail and I thought, what better way to show some fandom than a fan art friday based around this cool thing!
My madam is the best... she gets me cool presents!

Dustin' Off the Pencils

Title: Dustin' Off the Pencils
Medium: Graphite, Ebony Pencil, Chalk, White Paint Pen

Notes: It's been quite a while since I've touched any media other than digital, so I just wanted to show that I'm not stale in other areas...

This was approached using the same ideas as my digital: Every spot must be hit with at least two different types of media. As you can see I tried to push that aesthetic as far as I could. Hopefully it shows.

Skull was a toy, from life; the girl from photo.
More coming soon!

Imperfection

Title: Imperfection
Date: December 18, 2014
Medium: Photoshop CS6
Scale: Original is 1536px x 2048px

Notes: Searching for new ways to paint, I started to make rules for myself. One of them being to never let any part of a piece have any less than two different types of brushes active on it at once. This was kind of an exploration into that on top of really trying to push some rendering.

I'm thinking of pushing it into the marionette canon as a sort-of example towards this is what they look like fully-upgraded. They can never look perfectly smooth like a real human, but they can come close. Of course... they still have to show certain cybernetic elements.

Hope you like it!
