InkTober: In Memorial

Title: InkTober: In Memorial
Date: October 2014
Medium: Ink
Scale: Varies.

Notes: Every InkTober thus far, I have been very productive. Somehow this one got away from me. It's okay though, this semester has been one of extreme growth and I can't complain. I still had lots of fun sketching really fast for this InkTober and I hope to jump in next year.
Babies

Title: Babies
Medium: Gouache on Canvas
Scale: Each 'piece' is 3" x 3"

Notes: At the upcoming Holiday Bazaar at MCA, I will be selling these with their Illustration Club. Just a quick, fun experiment with some gouache.

The Offering

Title: The Offering
Medium: Gouache on Illustration Board
Scale: Original is approx. 3.5" x 14"

Notes: Ashley has a huge fascination with all things water-borne, so I thought it would be awesome to paint a piece specifically for her. The photo didn't turn out the greatest so it looks better in person, but it was a ton of fun to just stop questioning and just paint.

And More Zoodles

Title: And More Zoodles
Medium: Ink, Graphite, Charcoal
Scale: Each 'page' is approx. 2.5" x 4"

Notes: Zoodles is probably one of the best things to do during a lunch break. I would suggest anyone to go and just draw up all the animals and people at the local zoo. They are sooo much fun! More to come on these...

InkTober: Days 1 - 4 and then... 10

Title: InkTober: Days 1 - 4 and then... 10
Date: October 1 - 4 & 10
Medium: Ink
Scale: Varies

Notes: Okay... so... InkTober has come.
And I got real sick and.. excuses, excuses, blah blah...

Just saying that I'm on board. Just a bit laggy.

Zoodles!

Title: Zoodles!
Medium: Ebony Pencil

Notes: Just a small sampling of the zoodles drawing that I've been doing since the beginning of the semester.

Mad Moxxi in Oils

Title: Mad Moxxi in Oils
Medium: Oils
Scale: Original is 9" x 12"

Notes: Oils are a hard thing to manipulate. If anyone has any tips on how to mix colors... I wish I had a tube of every color, ever...

Speed Painting Brush Test

Title: Speed Painting Brush Test
Date: November 1, 2013
Medium: Photoshop CS3

Notes: I think I'm gaining an appreciation for multiple brushes.
Keep in mind this one is purposefully rough because I was only using this as a thirty-minute warm-up before starting to work yesterday. Regardless though, I think it turned out okay for what it is.

Inktober Wrap-Up

Title: Inktober Wrap-Up
Date: October 24, 25, 31, 2013
Medium: Pencil, Ink and Brush, Whiteout Pen
Scale: Varies

Notes: I almost managed to get one for every day of the month... I'm short five drawings. Damn. So close... Ah well, you can only do what you can while trying to keep up with school work.

Tank Girl Warm-Up

Title: Independent Study: The Displaced 1
Date: October 30, 2013
Medium: Photoshop CS3

Notes: Tank GIRL!
More of that brush test that I was going on about earlier.

Model Portrait Study - As Final As it Will Probably Get

Title: Model Portrait Study - As Final As it Will Probably Get
Date: October 21 & 22, 2013
Medium: Photoshop CS3

Notes: I don't think a whole lot changed from the other one, I just messed with proportions, and tried to get the face a little closer to realistic. I also realized that I had written previously that this was in September. That's not true... this was in October hahaha.

Nervousness

Title: Nervousness
Date: October 23, 2013
Medium: Photoshop CS3

Notes: I was trying to get a quick color study as a warm-up before I started the Foundling piece that I needed to work on. This was more of a speed-paint turned into a slightly more refined painting. It still has a bunch of areas to work out, but it was merely meant to explore crazy color combinations and interesting lighting situations.

Ashley's Version of a Bakhtak

Title: Ashley's Version of a Bakhtak
Date: October 15 - 18, 2013
Medium: Photoshop CS3
Scale: Original is 6" x 19"

Notes: The original version of this is from Iranian folklore.
Again, I'm just trying to push my painting skills further and further. This was an excellent test of my painting skills and also some character study. I'm trying to push further and further outside of my comfort zone to really see what I can do.
"My version of the Bakhtak:
Gives you bad dreams, a constant weight on chest (you are unable to move). They take glee in filling people with bad dreams, suffocating, or causing sleep paralysis. She is a woman that can grow roots from her fingertips that secure into the mattress and tie her to the intended victim. She lives in trees and draws the life force from them with the evil of nightmares, therefore she obtains some of the power of mother nature and uses it against her. She has wisps in her eyes, not pupils. She uses these to hypnotize her victims if they wake up. She is generally beautiful and delicate looking. She has words on her skin from the influence of people's nightmares, which she feeds into trees - killing them. Her rival is mother nature." -- (creature created by: Ashley Webb)

Inktober Days 14 - 17

Title: Inktober Days 14 - 17
Date: October 14 - 17, 2013
Medium: Brush and Ink
Scale: Varies

Notes: Again, more of that inktober love. I have to scan the next few days...

Inktober Days 7 - 9

Title: Inktober Days 7 - 9
Date: October 7 - 9, 2013
Medium: Brush and Ink
Scale: Varies

Notes: So I just learned that supposedly the rules state that you aren't allowed to pencil anything before you ink... so this is my attempt at man-mode!
I didn't really realize how close you have to pay attention when laying down the strokes without anything guiding you. It is extremely hard. It's like poster-izing life!
Anyway... days 7 - 9.
I have 10 & 11 all inked up and ready to be scanned and posted as well, but for some reason I didn't scan them to go with this batch <shrug>.

Anatomy Study is Better with A&W

Title: Anatomy Study is Better with A&W
Date: October 6, 2013
Medium: Photoshop CS3

Notes: It's been awhile since I've done any anatomy study, so I thought it would help a ton to really start using these practices to further bolster my painting skills.
Each of these are only fifteen-minute studies.

Inktober: Days 1 - 6

Title: Inktober: Days 1 - 6
Date: October 1 - 6, 2013
Medium: Brush and Ink, Watercolor, Sepia Toned Tombow Marker
